Assemblymember Quirk Talks About Why Fracking Regulation is Critical to California

(Sacramento) – Hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking, is a practice used by oil companies to inject water, acid, chemicals and other substances into the ground at high pressures to break up rock structures and retrieve oil.  Senate Bill 4 by State Senator Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) aims to impose the first regulations on fracking in California.  As a scientist, California State Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward) knows the importance of legislation such as SB 4.  Assemblymember Quirk worked for NASA and Lawrence Livermore Lab, and taught physics at Columbia, Cal Tech and UC Davis.  Watch this Assembly Access Video and hear Assemblymember Quirk explain the need to shed light on this complicated process through SB 4.
