Assemblymember Quirk Recognizes National Small Business Week with Local Event
UNION CITY – Assemblymember Quirk (D-Hayward) celebrated National Small Business Week with his second annual Small Business Breakfast at Mexico Tipico in Union City. According to Assemblymember Quirk, “Small businesses are truly the backbone of the state’s economy. California’s small businesses employ half of the state’s private workforce. I am proud to see small businesses thriving in the 20th Assembly District.”
Partnering with the local Chambers and Cities, each selected a Small Business to be honored. The Assemblymember presented the following businesses with certificates of recognition and stated “these are exemplary small businesses. They participate in local chamber activities, they volunteer in the community, and they strengthen our local economy.” The participating honorees were:
- Steven Montes Special Events, honored by Ashley Strasburg, CEO of the Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber
- Fremont Flowers and Gifts honored by the Assemblymember and Cindy Bonior, CEO of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce
- Books on B was honored by the City of Hayward
- Ascend Rehab Services was honored by Rey Sison, Executive Director of the Union City Chamber
Fremont Flower and Gifts, who has been selected as his District 20 Small Business of the Year, and its owner, Mr. Dirk Lorenz, will join the Assemblymember for a ceremony and luncheon on June 5th at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
Elected in 2012, Bill Quirk brings his PhD in astrophysics and career as an educator and scientist to the State Assembly. He is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials. He is also Chair of the Select Committee on California’s Clean Energy Economy. He is a member of the Agriculture, Public Safety, Revenue and Taxation, and Utilities and Energy Committees.
