Assemblymember Quirk Hosts Senior Scam Stopper Seminar
CASTRO VALLEY – Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward) and the California Contractors State License Board hosted a Senior Scam StopperSM Seminar in Castro Valley, where more than 80 people were in attendance. A panel of experts provided information to seniors on how to avoid becoming victims of fraud. Topics included home repair, auto repair, Medicare, phone and computer solicitations, foreign lotteries, annuities, and more. Among the panel of experts were representatives from the Contractors State License Board (CSLB), the State Controller’s Office, the Professional Fiduciaries Bureau, and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
“The Contractors State License Board enjoys co-hosting Senior Scam Stopper Seminars with Assemblymember Bill Quirk. He is one of the top legislators who have held the most seminars in the state, which shows his commitment to the seniors in his district,” stated CSLB Outreach Coordinator, Jane Kreidler.
“I host these seminars annually because they have become so important to the seniors in my district,” said Assemblymember Quirk. “Scam artists are very creative and find new ways to target and deceive the public. Unfortunately, seniors, being so kind and trusting, are the primary targets for scammers. I have had my identity stolen and understand how critical this information is, not just for seniors, but for everyone,” he concluded.
When asked if these workshops should continue, Nancy Peters of Hayward said they are “worth attending for the resources alone, the presentations and hand outs are extremely helpful.”
Assemblymember Quirk has hosted several of these seminars yearly throughout his district since getting elected in 2012. “If you missed this seminar be sure to catch the next one on Friday, June 29 at the Fremont Senior Center,” announced Assemblymember Quirk.
