Senior Scam Stopper Series

CASTRO VALLEY - Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward) is hosting several Senior Scam Stopper events throughout the 20th Assembly District this summer. The events, held in cooperation with the Contractor’s State License Board will help consumers learn how to spot commons scams and avoid falling prey to them. Attendees can get answers to their questions and obtain immediate assistance if they have been victims of a scam.

The seminar will feature a panel of experts from across the state, who will discuss topics including: how to protect oneself from identity theft, how to avoid investment related scams, and what to look for and ask about before engaging in home and auto repair contracts.

“The goal is to empower consumers before the damage is done, by educating them about what to look for and what questions they need to ask,” said Assemblymember Quirk.

The State Controller’s unclaimed property locator team will also participate in the Fremont and Union City events. Attendees at those seminars can find out if they have any unclaimed property – including shares of unclaimed securities and cash. “State Controller John Chiang has made a concerted effort to return millions of dollars of unclaimed property to the rightful owners. I want to make sure my constituents get their property back.”

Californians can search for unclaimed property online by visiting: https://scoweb.sco.ca.gov/UCP/Default.aspx.
