Assemblymember Quirk Recognizes Castro Valley Bakery Helping At-Risk Youth as “Small Business of the Year”

SACRAMENTO –Assemblymember Bill Quirk, D-Hayward, recognized Swiss Delices bakery and its owner, Christine Clement, for mentoring the next generation of chefs and culinary stars by providing employment and educational opportunities to high-risk youth as the “Small Business of the Year” for the 20th Assembly District at the California Small Business Association’s annual ceremony at the Sacramento Convention Center last week.

“Swiss Delices is a great example of the small businesses and women-owned businesses that are thriving and giving back to the community while being mindful of the environment and the health of their customers.”

Opened in 2008, with locations in Hayward and Castro Valley, Swiss Delices uses green products and quality local ingredients including organic flour and pesticide free and organic fruit.  The bakery employs local youth and participates in Soulciety’s Youth Employment Project. This fall, Swiss Delices will also partner with Castro Valley Adult School, and plans to train and hire developmentally disabled individuals. A major supporter of public education, Christine Clement regularly donates to the local education foundation.  Clement is also a member of the Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce and Castro Valley Rotary

Assemblymember Quirk will celebrate the bakery’s status as “Small Business of the Year” in the district, on Thursday, June 20th at 5:30 p.m. at Swiss Delices’ new location at 3315 Castro Valley Boulevard in Castro Valley. The event is open to the public and all are welcome. To R.S.V.P. visit https://a20.asmdc.org/event/upcoming-event.
