Assemblymember Quirk and Fremont Councilmember Teresa Keng helped direct a donation of facemasks to Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC), a safety-net community clinic, and pillar, in southern Alameda County. The facemask donation came from the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco Bay Area who through fundraising efforts managed to acquire 5,000 facemasks, which makes for a generous donation.
"I want to thank the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco Bay Area for their incredible donation to Tiburcio Vazquez," said Assemblymember Quirk, "our health clinics are at the frontlines of this pandemic and having these extra facemasks for their medical staff and patients will make all the difference."
Andrea Schwab-Galindo, CEO of Tiburcio Vazquez Health Center, was very grateful to learn about the donation, "Thank you to the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco Bay Area, Assemblymember Bill Quirk, and Fremont Councilmember Teresa Keng for your donation of 5,000 masks to our health centers. Our staff is working relentlessly to protect the health of our patients and community members, most of whom are among the hardest hit by COVID-19. It is heartwarming to have community partners who are helping to protect the health of our staff, so they can continue to safely provide care to our community's most vulnerable."
Joe Chou, President of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco Bay Area, expressed concern over rising COVID-19 cases and doing their part in this pandemic, "We appreciate the community support we are receiving from Assemblymember Quirk, Councilmember Keng, Ms. Schwab-Galindo and all the other local elected officials in attendance at the donation site. Southern Alameda County has been greatly impacted by COVID-19 and their case numbers keep rising – so our main goal was to help the community. We hope that through this donation we were able to do just that and show that Taiwan can help."
In the past few months, the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco Bay Area have made multiple facemask donations throughout the greater Bay Area from elderly and public health centers to different nonprofit service organizations. The group has always worked towards strengthening community relations through education, cultural, and charitable events showing that "Taiwan can help". The chamber hopes to continue to work with other counties and cities in the Bay Area to support those who have been the most impacted by the pandemic.
"We are very lucky have great community partners like the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco Bay Area and even luckier to have clinics like Tiburcio Vazquez in our community that are working around the clock to fight against COVID-19," concluded Assemblymember Quirk.
